I don't really have a response to the question in the last comment -- "what happens to our trash?". But i wanted to point your mouse to this link StoryOfStuff that shows the life of a consumer product & has a lot of resources/information to help reduce waste. Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle should be our motto.
